Gallery One Bar (Closed Temporarily)

(58 Ratings)
Friendly gay and lesbian bar

This casual no-attitude bar is welcoming to men and women. Great place to get a drink while you think about getting a bottle to take back to your hotel room.

Great place. "Family" atmosphere!

Its a mostly African-American patronage, with a great pop/jazz/old school/blues jukebox. Mostly warm and friendly regulars, AC/heat/lighting, retro eclectic style (deer antlers, red lights, murals etc), and reasonable prices. They also have baked personal pizzas and bar snacks if you are hungry and want to grab a table. They have a pool table, and usually host a game of Spades as well. Mostly mature crowd 30-60, with a great following. The best bet for a Gay African American person visiting the city of Baltimore, as there is a staunch racial/uncomfortable vibe consistently in Mount Vernon - at places like Hippo, Central, Drinkery, Windup Space. Do yourself a favor, come to Gallery Bar and have a great time with a diverse group of people (professionals, blue collar, college-ages, mature), without the drama.

Used to be the best bar in the 70's and 80's

Back when I lived in Baltimore. 1978-1985 The Gallery was the place to go and the Shipmates Bar, which was the back bar, Leather only, had a huge back room with lots of sex that spilled out most of the time into the Bar and there were glory holes that were between the men's room, and the back room. I met some of the hotest men around in that place, including Redskin Football Players. There for a short time was also another bar called Port Hole up on Greenmount but the Gallery was the BAR!

Not Like It Used To Be!

This bar has gone through many changes and names through the years. It had a fine resturant off and on and always went for their Maryland crab cakes; not even sure if they serve food anymore. Has always been a mixed crowd tending to favor blacks. When I visited B-more last fall, it seemed to be mostly afro american crowd and as a caucasin felt uncomfortable and not wanted in the establishment. Not a favorite place to hang anymore.
