For 25 years, Marylanders have organized, rallied, and lobbied for LGBT rights and freedom within our state. Over the years we have secured non-discrimination laws at the state level protecting sexual orientation, local laws protecting transgender individuals, a state hate crimes law that includes sexual orientation and gender identity, early victories for domestic partners, and most recently winning marriage equality in the legislature and at the ballot box.
We hope you will join us on Sunday, October 27, 2013 to celebrate our history and achieving our vision of a state where all Marylanders can live and love without discrimination. Stay tuned for more information on purchasing tickets, sponsorship opportunities, special guests, silent auction items, and more!
The Equality Maryland 25th Anniversary Celebration will honor Senator Richard S. Madaleno, Jr. (District 18, Montgomery County). Senator Madaleno, who was on the Board of Directors of Free State Justice (renamed Equality Maryland in 2003), from 1999 to 2002, has represented Montgomery County’s District 18 in Annapolis since 2003.
Sen. Madaleno has been the leading voice for LGBT equality for a decade in Annapolis. He was instrumental in all of our legislative achievements—passing a hate crimes law, medical decision making for domestic partners, and of course, marriage equality. He is the lead sponsor of the bill that will extend the protections of our anti discrimination laws to transgender Marylanders.
Headlining a list of LGBT superstar performers will be singer/songwriter JJ Nolis. Check out this article from the Washington Blade: http://www.washingtonblade.com/2013/10/09/equality-md-announces-gala-performers/
