Weighted Game, New Work by Katie Pumphrey

In her first solo exhibition, Weighted Game, Baltimore artist Katie Pumphrey explores the competitive drive, the physical limitations of the body and primal response in her new paintings and drawings. Katie Pumphrey earned her BFA in Painting from MICA in 2009 and most recently was the artist-in-residence at the Creative Alliance. She has also participated in residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and Baltimore’s Gallery Four, where she acted as co-curator. Her experience as a long-distance, open water swimmer continues to influence and drive her work She is currently training to swim the English Channel in August 2015.
