Artist and rogue taxidermist Robert Marbury will join Curator of Renaissance and Baroque Art Joaneath Spicer for a talk highlighting examples of taxidermy in the museum’s Chamber of Wonders.
Shortly afterwards, taxidermist and instructor Divya Anantharaman of Friends Forever Taxidermy will provide insight into the technical side of the art, demonstrating methods of taxidermy, including the process of mounting a hide on a form.
Following the demonstration, visitors are invited to observe the first ever Baltimore Taxidermy Open, a competition for rogue taxidermists and collectors curated by Bazaar, a Hampden curiosity shop. Many different styles and methods of taxidermy and animal-centric art will be represented, and prizes will be awarded in multiple categories.
Copies of "Taxidermy Art: A Rogue’s Guide by Robert Marbury" will be available for sale in the Museum Store.
