Meet the judges for Mr. PW's Leather 2013....
Marc Carcione, Mr. PW's Leather 2012
In 2006, after extensive "research" (read as "watching porn") of the leather and fetish lifestyle Marc finally took his first steps into the community. Finding a home in the DC boys of Leather he quickly took on leadership roles on the executive board. From 2008-10 he was Secretary of the club, won the 2009 Bryan "Pup" Mullikan Leatherboy of the Year award for outstanding service to the club. This past June Marc was voted in as Treasurer of the club. In 2009, Marc and his husband, Jason, moved to Laurel and found another home here at PW's Sportsbar. During the first Mr. PW's Leather Contest, Marc was given the privilege of being Tally Master. The next year Marc ran for the title itself and became the 2012 Mr. PW's Leather. From there, the Marc entered the 2012 Mid-Atlantic Leather contest and placed 1st runner up out of 9 contestants from the northeast. For the next several months Marc was able to tour all over the northeast and even to International Mr. Leather.
Shelby Blake-Stephyns, Mr. Maryland Leather 2001
Shelby Blake-Stephyns (Aka Jon Rybka-Wachhaus) is the current Miss PW'S 2012. Born out of a love for performing and fund-raising, Shelby started off in Pennsylvania helping raise money for the Harrisburg Pride working her way down the East to land in Washington, DC. She currently also holds the prestigious title as the Vice Lady of The Academy of Washington, DC (A social organization that just celebrated its 50th Anniversary) and also as the Arch Duchess of The Imperial Court of Washington, DC. Her constant willingness to help raise money for charities has given her the opportunity to work with Brother Help Thyself, Pets-DC, GLCCB, The DC Center, Grandma's House, Mautner Project, Dignity USA, ASGRA and so many more.
A self proclaimed Drag-Cub, Some of you may recognize her as "him" at the monthly bear nights at PW'S Sports Bar & Grill or perhaps when he was Mr. Maryland Leather for 2001 and competed at International Mr. Leather in 2002. As both Shelby & Jon, she has judged dozens of contests in everything from leather to live performance to drag.
Shelby feels that the crossing of bridges between the many communities allows her to help in raising awareness not only within the gay community but also the public as a whole. She hopes to continue to support all "groups" within the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, questioning and inter-sexed community.
Rod McCoy, Leatherman of Color 2011
Although he has been active in the Leather community for the past six years, Rod was first introduced to the concept of BDSM play through Gay Male S/M Activists (GMSMA) back in 1992 at the New York City Gay Pride Festival. It would be six years later in January of 1998 that, on a visit to Washington, DC, he was introduced to Mid-Atlantic Leather (MAL) Weekend and, during that same weekend, ONYX, the Leather/BDSM fraternity for gay and bisexual Men of Color.
After relocating to DC in 2003, Rod joined ONYX in 2005, and began work of co-founding the ONYX Mid-Atlantic Chapter. Rod was elected President of ONYX Mid-Atlantic in 2007. Earlier that same year, ONYX Mid-Atlantic established its T.E.A.C.H. Program, a monthly Leather/BDSM seminar for gay and bisexual Men of Color. Rod has presented on “Safe, Sane and Consensual” for T.E.A.C.H. in 2007 and 2008, and has presented at Blackout XIII and Blackout XV, ONYX’s national annual run in Atlanta and Fort Lauderdale respectively. He has also participated in various panels for DC Leather Pride; namely, “What Are the Leather Clubs” in 2007, and “People of Color and the Leather Community” in 2010 and 2011. Rod also moderated the community panel on “Diversity” and “African-Americans and Kink” for Black Rose in 2010 and 2011. He also moderated a similar panel on African-Americans for the Master/slave Conference in 2011. Rod is most proud of earning the Leatherman of Color 2011 title; his platform during his title year was “Embracing Difference and Diversity.” He is currently a Co-Producer of the Leatherman of Color title; he works to raise the title’s profile and visibility.
In addition to his work in ONYX and Leatherman of Color, Rod graduated from the Master Taino Training Academy Masters’ Training in 2008. He is also an Associate Member of the dc boys of leather. Rod’s kink play and fetishes include fisting, spanking, ass play, and wax play. You may also find him at various Leather and BDSM gatherings, including MAL, International Mr. Leather Weekend, CLAW, the Master/slave Conference and Black BEAT.
In his “other life”, Rod is a Program Manager at the National Association of People with AIDS. He is also an ordained Deacon with the Unity Fellowship Church of Washington, DC, where he coordinates the church’s HIV/AIDS Ministry. He is happily partnered with Theo Storm, Mr. PW’s Leather 2011; they reside in Maryland.
Matthew Bronson, Mr. MAL 2012
Matthew first discovered his love for leather when he started going to leather bars such as the NYC and DC Eagle. Every time he would go there, it just felt right to him and he felt that he belonged. In September of 2012 he was asked to participate in Mr. LL Contest in Rehoboth, Delaware. Though he came in second, it was a life changing experience for him and he had the time of his life. Not long after that he found out about Mr. Pittsburgh Leather Fetish, which took place in November of 2012. He decided to enter and much to his surprise, he won. The following January he became Mr. MAL 2012.
It’s been quite a ride for Matthew. He is a proud member of The Three Rivers Leather Club in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He has assisted in various fundraisers for places such as The Shepherd Wellness Center and Children’s Youth Center of Allegheny County. One of his proudest moments of being Mr. MAL was when he raised over $1500 for Scarlet’s Bake Sale by donating some leather gear and a certain leather accessory.
Matthew’s heart is of a leather man and he wears his heart on his sleeve. He believes the true leather man is the person that goes to the bars, attends the charity function and supports the clubs. Because of that, he wants to bring as much as he can back to the leather bars and clubs. He is truly thankful for all the support that they have given him.
Kevin Jordan, Mr DC Eagle 2012
Living in Cheverly, MD with his husband Bernard Molepske, Kevin Jordan became Mr. DC Eagle 2012 in November 2011 and was 2nd Runner Up at International Mister Leather (IML) 2012.
Kevin is a Kinky Switch who began his journey over six years ago at the DC Eagle and Mid-Atlantic Leather weekend thanks to his friend Bob. It was an explosive weekend from meeting leather men/women and handballing to beginning to discover other interests and the rich history of the leather community. Kevin enjoys staying physically fit and feels very confident wearing leather and even more so in his Wesco boots. To Kevin it is not just the leather that should fit like a 2nd skin but more importantly your attitude with every person you meet in life.
Kevin is a member of ONYX and enjoys hanging with the Highwaymen of TNT.
His career and voluntary work has focused on both public health and now Information Technology (IT). His interest and experience are in HIV/AIDS housing and social marketing, mental health and food delivery to persons living with a terminal illness.
Kevin is currently researching the culture and history of the DC Eagle and the DC leather community to share with the community leather at-large.
