Money for Our Movements 2014: A Social Justice Fundraising Conference will take place August 2-3, 2014 at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. The conference will bring together over 700 individuals who represent hundreds of social justice organizations for an inspiring weekend of fundraising training designed specifically for movement makers.
Are you looking to increase funding from your own community to grow the work of your organization? Would you like to create or strengthen a more sustainable community-based funding model for your work? Are you working in isolation, burning out, and looking for community with other social justice fundraisers?
If so, THIS is the conference for YOU!
Here are some of the exciting elements of GIFT’s fifth biennial conference:
-Fundraising skills training geared toward social justice activists, featuring hands-on exercises and practical information.
-Concrete, real-life examples and models of organizations from the US and abroad that are creating alternatives to fundraising that is driven by foundations and/or government agencies.
-Discussions with participants who fill various organizational roles, from board members to development staff to community organizers and leaders, to broaden the analysis of fundraising to include its impact on program and movement-building.
-Debates and plenaries with luminaries and up-and-coming leaders in the social justice and
philanthropy sectors that will provoke participants to think outside the box.
-Planning sessions on how to raise money in communities of color and/or immigrant communities.
-Networking opportunities for people to share, come together, and build community.
-Idea development for new and emerging strategies that tie fundraising to collective liberation.
Registration rates are the following $300 regular rate, $200 group rate (for 5 or more individuals registering together-don’t have to be with the same organization), and $50 for a limited number of scholarships. Dorm rooms will be available for $50/night. There are also some nearby hotels, but we’re encouraging people to stay in the dorms. Johns Hopkins will provide breakfast and lunch on both days for a total of $40.
We’ll have more details coming soon about workshop topics, presenters, and speakers. Registration will open in March. For now, check out last year's conference video for some highlights and to learn more about the conference. ASL and Spanish interpretation will be provided.
